What is a Wiki?

"Wikis are collections of Web pages that are linked together, and they can be edited by anyone who has access to them."

Rules for Kids**

These rules were obtained from FBI Kids Safety

  1. First, remember never to give out personal information such as your name, home address, school name, or telephone number in a chat room or on bulletin boards.
  2. Never send a picture of yourself to someone you chat with on the computer without your parent's permission.
  3. Never write to someone who has made you feel uncomfortable or scared.
  4. Do not meet someone or have them visit you without the permission of your parents.
  5. Tell your parents right away if you read anything on the Internet that makes you feel uncomfortable.
  6. Remember that people online may not be who they say they are.

I will add to these rules by saying:

  • Don't talk about how you travel back and forth to school or talk about times you might not have adult supervision online.
  • Don't post a picture of yourself online.
  • Don't write anything you would be ashamed for your grandmother to read out loud in church.
  • Never arrange to meet someone you've met online in person unless you discuss it with your parents and an adult goes with you.
